Self-esteem and self-concept
In my journey to lose weight by focusing mainly on the change text, I found myself at some point to read a lot of books and articles on the subject. Let's just say that I sublimate my greed, shifting the focus from food to Knowledge :-).
No article or book or conference or seminar, or treaty that does not place emphasis on the fact that very often those who are overweight or obese has a very low self-esteem.
I confess that I never paid much attention when I worked on myself. I felt that this was not my problem. Indeed, to be honest, have always been convinced of having too much self-esteem in the sense that I have often thought myself to be presumptuous sometimes.
I started to feel the need to better understand and explore the concept of self-esteem when I was clear, compared with many other women who really low self-esteem is very often the first problem to be addressed for those who want to start up a process of change itself.
And I discovered with surprise and relief that I was wrong. Wow what I sbagliavo.La my self-esteem is definitely not very consistent and very shaky. The relief is because they are convinced that change is possible if you understand where is the error or failure.
The error arose from the fact that I was a confusion of terms and the exchange account of themselves with the concept of self-esteem.
But let's go.
What self-esteem.

The "self-concept" is a list of all those characteristics that we think define us. And therefore my concept of myself is that I am a woman of a certain age, time of normal weight, I love reading, studying, living in the countryside, cooking, animals around, go to exhibitions. I know I'm smart, especially in matters scientific, I know it was a good doctor's work, I know I'm very strong, patient, friendly. I also know that in certain situations, easily loses patience and I can suddenly explode. Overall, I have a concept me very positive.
But "self-concept" is not "self"
L ' "esteem" is not a static list of capabilities, but it is the assessment of these capabilities do with the information we have about ourselves.
William James defined self-esteem as the ratio between the perceived self and ideal self.
Self-esteem is a kind of balance between what we believe and we think we are and what we believe and think we have to be (and then, reach).
Self-esteem is in fact a relationship between success and expectations.
I opened up a world. And I realized why no success, no result has never died down this sense of unease that has accompanied my life.

I'm putting in place various materials used in the past that I have for my classes. And I found this little story that I like so much and so many that I want to change my own use and consumption for the lessons that I kept.

Once an elderly professor was contacted to take a lecture on "Planning Effective Time" to a group of executives from leading U.S. companies. The professor had available only one hour.
Standing in front of this elite group (Ready to take notes on everything that the expert was going to teach),
the old professor looked at them one by one slowly. Then he said: "Now we do an experiment."
From under the table that separated him from the students, the old man pulled out a large glass container and placed it gently in front of him. Then he pulled out of the stones about the size of tennis balls one by one and placed them gently into the jar.
When this was filled to the brim and it was impossible to add even a single stone, slowly raised his eyes to his students and asked, "Is this jar full?". Smiling, they all answered "Yes". He waited a moment and added: "Really?"
Then he leaned back and pulled out from under the table a second container, this time filled with gravel. With attention to this large stones on the gravel and then shook the jar lightly. But "knowing" is not synonymous with "feeling" and only recently, working on myself, reading, trying, experimenting for the first time I heard the enormous power on the skin of my mind and the enormous power of emotions as lever of change.
I had first hand that how to interpret the experiences of my life depends on the "filter" that I use (my mind). And that emotions, which subsequently try, and then the experiences are not simply the result of this continuous filtration.
Although a person is not completely naive with respect to some psychological, however, cultivated the false belief that the unconscious is a sort of pot of boiling that is he going to tease the better.
What I was opened in the past year, aided by the curiosity, the desire to "feel good", never content to survive, is a new world full of promise.
If we respect, we cultivate, stimulated, we address the unconscious can be our most valuable ally.
